The best inverter compressor for RV air conditioner

The HVACR market is changing rapidly every day. The inverter ac compressor technology is not only used in ducted air conditioning, but also in central air conditioning and heat pump air conditioning as well. Now the increased availability of inverter technology changed people’s life, not only home HVAC, but also the RV air conditioner. The inverter technology is currently revolutionizing the way RV air conditioning systems are being designed to meet different customer’s need. People will wonder what the inverter technology is and what benefits it can offer.

What is inverter technology?

An inverter is a part of the electrical components of an air conditioner or heat pump. It is a device for converting the frequency to control the speed of the compressor motor, so as to continuously control the room temperature. The inverter air conditioning units adopts the inverter rotary compressor or inverter scroll compressor; adjust the frequency and speed of the inverter compressor to control the refrigerant (gas) flow rate, so that it is always in the best speed state, thereby consuming less current and power, improving the energy efficiency.

The inverter air conditioner has precise temperature control and as the set temperature is attained, the unit will vary their cooling or heating capacity by adjusting the frequency and speed of the inverter ac compressor.

In contract, the non inverter ac has a fixed cooling or heating capacity as it adopts the fixed speed rotary compressor or scroll compressor. It can only control the indoor temperature by stopping or starting their compressors.

The refrigeration work principle of inverter air conditioning is exactly same as the non-inverter air conditioning. The compressor of the inverter air conditioning is variable speed, which can automatically vary the cooling or heat temperature according to the indoor temperature. When the indoor temperature reaches the set value, the inverter air conditioning is able to accurately maintain the best speed to ensure the stability of the environmental temperature. It like the car runs in the high-speed way, keep going at a constant speed.

How does the inverter work?

An inverter is part of electrical components of an inverter air conditioner. It contains rectifier, filter, inverter and control circuit etc. The 220V AC power will change to 310V DC power after rectifying and filtering. Then after inverted, the 310V DC power will change to a variable frequency voltage, which can transform the 50HZ frequency into a wide range frequency, for example, 30HZ~130HZ. The inverter air conditioner uses the variable frequency compressor to control the speed according to the indoor air temperature.

What’s the different of fixed speed compressor and variable speed compressor?

The traditional air conditioner uses a fixed speed compressor, which is without an inverter. The fixed speed compressor only has two speeds-on and off. When the compressor is on, it runs at 100% speed until it reaches the set value, then it switches off. Then ON and OFF, ON and OFF.

The smart inverter compressor is with an inverter technology which can run at a wide range of speeds. When the smart inverter compressor switches on, it will run at a high speed to reach the set temperature. When it reaches the set temperature, the compressor can run at a low speed to maintain a constant room temperature.

What are the benefits of inverter ac compressor technology?

Inverter technology increases efficiency

Before we talk about the inverter technology how to increase the efficiency, let’s talk about how a traditional air conditioner works. The traditional air conditioner uses a fixed speed compressor, when the indoor temperature is higher than the set value, the air conditioner switches on and the compressor run at 100% speed. It brings down the room temperature, and then the air conditioner switches off. After a short time, the temperature goes back up; the air conditioner switches on again. ON and OFF, ON and OFF, repeating the cycle.

The problem is that the air conditioner switches on every time; it will use more energy to make the compressor motor running from 0 to 100%. For example, you will waste a lot of gas if you turned your car’s engine on and off, on and off.

The inverter air conditioner adopts variable speed drive compressor, which raises the speed gradually when switches on. It can automatically adjust the frequency of the ac compressor according to the change of cold (hot) load in the room. After reaching the set temperature, the inverter air conditioner runs at a lower frequency, which avoids the discomfort caused by the changes of room temperature. Lower frequency, less power, more energy saving.

Inverter air conditioner decreases noise

Firstly, the inverter ac compressor rises up the speed gradually; it reduces the noise level from the fixed compressor starting up.

Secondly, it reduces the noise level from the fixed compressor ON and OFF, ON and OFF.

Thirdly, the digital inverter compressor will run at a lower speed when it reaches the set value, so the noise can be reduced.

Inverter air conditioning improves comfort

The fixed speed compressor of the traditional air conditioner can’t change the compressor speed, it controls the room temperature by ON and OFF, and so the room temperature goes up and down frequently. People feel discomfort.

In contrast, the inverter air conditioner changes the frequency of the dc ac compressor and adjusts the speed of the compressor to achieve the temperature you’ve set and hold it there. The room temperature fluctuation is small, power consumption is less, and its comfort greatly improves.

The air conditioning with inverter technology can automatically choose the heating, cooling and dehumidification mode according to the ambient temperature, so that the room can reach the required temperature in a short time and with small temperature difference fluctuation

The traditional air conditioner can’t control the humidity because the compressor turns on and OFF frequently. However the inverter air conditioner can control the humidity level of your home well.

Inverter air conditioner has higher applicability

Higher applicability of low voltage: The inverter air conditioner which adopts the inverter ac compressor has strong adaptability to the voltage. Some inverter air conditioning can even start under 150-240V voltage.

High applicability of low ambient temperature: The inverter air conditioner has strong adaptability to the ambient temperature; some products can even start at -15°C ambient temperature.

Inverter aircon extended life of the parts

The traditional air conditioner uses the fixed speed air conditioning compressor, which control the indoor temperature by ON and OFF. The compressor switches ON and OFF frequently and the start current is high when switches on, so as it impact the compressor life. Compared with fixed speed compressor, the inverter air conditioner compressor has not high start current when switches on, and it doesn’t switch on and off frequently, so it has higher reliability.

Now the inverter technology not only changed the home air conditioner, but also the RV air conditioner. In order to improve the comfort and meet higher requirements of customers, there is more and more RV air conditioner which adopts the inverter technology. For example Dometic Harrier inverter. It is a roof air conditioner with inverter technology. The Dometic Harrier inverter adopts a variable speed compressor, which has the advantages:

  • Powerful cooling capacity because of the variable speed compressor.
  • Lower noise and vibration because of the quite operation of the inverter air conditioning compressor.
  • The compressor speeds up gradually, reducing the energy consumption and decreasing the noise.
  • Low start-up current

A normal RV air conditioner always uses a constant-speed rotary compressor. It causes the starting current of the air conditioner rise very high, it could be 3~5 times to the rated current, and always has the generator over-load problems. The fixed-speed ac compressor can’t change the compressor speed, like the traditional air conditioner, it controls the temperature by switching ON and OFF frequently. It not only waste energy, but also makes people feel discomfort.

In contract, the inverter RV air conditioner uses a dc inverter rotary compressor. It helps to eliminate the start-up current when running from generators or if the power supply is restricted. It can minimize the amount of times the compressor has to cycle on and off and not have the AC blow full blast when it is on. It will be a more comfortable experience.

The dc inverter compressor ramps up and down with the cooling or heating need. If you need less cooling, the compressor runs at lower speed, uses less energy. It can precise control the RV temperature to makes people more comfortable.

The dc inverter ac compressor can run at lower speed to reduce the noise and vibration when people sleep.
