What is Cold Storage Room?

Cold storage room is mainly used for constant temperature storage of food, dairy products, meat, fish, fruits and vegetables, cold drinks, flowers, green plants, tea, medicines, chemical raw materials and others. They need to be stored under high temperature or medium temperature or low temperature. The cold storage room is also called cold room, walk in cooler, walk in freezer, freezer room and so on.

According to different cold storage room temperature and applications, the cold storage room can be divided into positive temperature cold storage room, and negative temperature cold storage room.

Positive temperature cold storage room (±5℃): It is suitable for the preservation of fruits and vegetables.

Negative temperature cold storage room (-10℃ ~-5℃): It is suitable for the frozen food refrigeration.

Negative temperature cold storage room (-20℃~-10℃): It is suitable for refrigeration of freezing aquatic products, meat and so on.

Negative temperature cold storage room (below-23℃): It is suitable for the rapid freezing of fresh products before refrigeration.

What Components Does the Walk in Coolers include?

The cold room components include cold storage refrigeration system, cold room panels, door and pipes. The cold room refrigeration system consists of outdoor condenser unit, cold room evaporator, electric box and other refrigeration components. The outdoor condenser unit is also called remote condenser unit or cold room outdoor unit. It is connected to the evaporator by pipelines. The evaporator is installed inside of the walk in cooler or walk in freezer ceiling and equipped with one or more fans which allow air to circulate in the room, it is also called cold room indoor unit.

Condensing Unit

Condensing unit is the main part of the cold room refrigeration system. According to different installation locations, the condenser unit is divided into indoor condenser unit and outdoor condenser unit.

The Indoor Condensing Unit is also called self contained condensing unit, which is installed on the bottom of refrigerated display cases or top of the refrigerated display cases.

The Outdoor Condenser Unit is installed outside of the refrigerated display cases or cold rooms. The outdoor condenser unit is also called remote condensing unit. It consists of refrigeration compressor, oil separator, condenser, fan motor, receiver, filter dryer, high pressure & low pressure switch, sight-glass, accumulator, high and low pressure gauge, shell and so on.

The outdoor condensing unit is also called remote condensing unit. It is consist of refrigeration compressor, oil separator, condenser, fan motor, receiver, high pressure protector & low pressure protector, shell, filter dryer, sight-glass and so on.

Refrigeration Compressor

Refrigeration compressor: The Walk in Cooler Compressor is the most important part of the refrigeration system. It likes the heart of a human. The function of the compressor unit is to compress and drive the refrigerant in the refrigeration system. The compressor sends the refrigerant from the walk in cooler evaporator to the walk in cooler condenser after cooling and condensation. The refrigerant also changes from a vapor state to a liquid state and the pressure rises.

Glen Refrigeration outdoor condenser unit features Sanyo Rotary Refrigeration Compressor, Panasonic Scroll Compressor and Emerson Copeland Scroll Compressor.

Condenser

The condenser is also called heat exchanger. It is one of the main heat exchanger in the cold room refrigeration system. The function of condenser unit is to cool and condense the high-temperature high-pressure refrigerant vapor into high-pressure liquid.

According to different types of condenser unit, we have the air cooled condensing unit and water cooled condensing unit.

Oil Separator

Oil separator: Its function is to separate the lubricating oil in the high-pressure steam discharged from the refrigeration compressor to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the system.

Liquid Receiver

Liquid Receiver: It is a liquid refrigerant storage tank. Liquid receiver function is to ensure that the refrigerant is always saturated.

Filter Dryer

Dry filter: Filter the impurities and moisture from the system.

Sight Glass Refrigeration

Sight glass: The function of sight-glass is to observe the condition of refrigerant and the water content in the refrigerant system.

Solenoid Valve

Solenoid valve: It prevents the high-pressure refrigerant liquid from entering the walk in cooler evaporator when the refrigeration compressor is shut down. It is to avoid the low pressure being too high when the compressor is started and prevent the compressor liquid hitting the compressor. Second, when the walk in cooler or walk in freezer temperature reaches the set value, the temperature controller acts, the solenoid valve loses power, and the low pressure reaches the set value when the compressor stops. When the temperature in the cold storage room rises to the set value, the temperature controller acts, the solenoid valve gets power, and the low pressure rises to the set value, the compressor starts.

High and Low Pressure Switch

High and low pressure switch: Protect the refrigeration compressor from high pressure and low pressure.

High and Low Pressure Gauge

High and low pressure gauge: Monitor the system operation while evacuating, adding refrigerant and refrigeration system troubleshooting.

Expansion Valve

Expansion valve: The expansion valve is also called throttle valve. It can make the refrigeration system to form a huge pressure difference, so that the high pressure refrigerant liquid will evaporate quickly in the outlet of the expansion valve.

Cold Room Evaporator

Evaporator: The walk in cooler evaporator is also one kind of heat exchangers. It absorbs the heat from the walk in cooler or walk in freezer; so that the liquid refrigerant evaporates under the low pressure and low temperature. The evaporator coil is equipped with one or more fans to allow air to circulate in the room.

Basically, the principle of refrigeration condensers and evaporators is the same, the difference is that the evaporator is to absorb heat from the cold storage room; the condenser is to exhaust heat to the outside.

Glen Refrigeration also manufactures and supplies cold room evaporator to match the cold room condensing unit.

  • Refrigeration evaporator for positive temperature cold room (0°C)
  • Refrigeration evaporator for negative temperature cold room(-18°C)
  • Refrigeration evaporator for negative temperature cold room(-25°C)

Any need of the evaporator sizing, price and installation manual, feel free to contact with us.

Accumulator

Accumulator: To separate the liquid refrigerant to ensure the gaseous refrigerant returned to the compressor, avoiding liquid hammer.

Stop Valve

Stop Valve: The function of stop valve is to open to cut off the refrigerant flow.

Electric Box

Electric box (Temperature controller): It is equivalent to cold storage brain. It control walk-in cooler or walk in freezer refrigeration system open and stop and frost, the fan open and stop.
