R290 Refrigerant Charge

  • The amount of refrigerant charge depends on the different type of refrigeration system and components, but compared to R404A and R134A, R290 refrigerant requires about 40%~50% less.
  • According to EN 60335-2-89, the maximum load of refrigerant in the case of R290 is 150g for light commercial equipments and domestic applications.

How to Use R290?

  • Because of the high flammability of R290, it is necessary to establish security measures for equipment and also on production lines.
  • The compressors must put on a warning label alerting to the presence of flammable refrigerant.
  • There should be no risk sparks near the work area. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flame, and hot surfaces. No Smoking.
  • Good ventilation in the work area is necessary to reduce the potential of a flammable mix.
  • The coolant should not penetrate into basements or low areas, as HC gases are heavier than air.
  • Risk situations in which the R290 can be mixed with air and acquire a high temperature should be avoided.
